Cortland Marker Smith, age 77, of Oldsmar, Florida passed away on Monday, October 17, 2022. He was born January 3, 1945 to Cortland and Lorraine Smith in Summit, New Jersey. Cortland is survived by his partner in life; Barbara Smith of Palm Harbor, their children; Jennifer (Matthew) Unger of Idaho Falls and Alan Smith of Atlanta, two grandchildren; Claudia Unger (age 9) and Ainsley Unger (age 8), and a brother; Craig Smith of Long Island.
Cortland graduated from Dunedin High School and courageously volunteered to serve his country in the US Navy during Vietnam era. He went on to obtain his Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from University of South Florida and then his Master’s Degree in Guidance from University of South Florida.
Cortland was an avid golfer and a classic sports car enthusiast. He was a lifelong fan of Sebring racing, a passionate sports fan, especially of baseball (Rays) & football (Buccaneers). He enjoyed genealogy, coin and stamp collecting, history and loved 60s and 70s Motown music. He also volunteered as Little League Coach for 20 years.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or flowers can be sent directly to the funeral home.
A visitation for Cortland will be held Saturday, October 29, 2022 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 2853 Sunset Point Rd, Clearwater, FL 33759. A funeral service will occur starting at 11:00 and a graveside service will occur thereafter.
