Charles E. Curley passed away peacefully on May 1st at age 95. Charlie was born in Brooklyn, NY. He served on active duty in the Marine Corps in the Asiatic Pacific during World War II and survived the battle of Iwo Jima with honors.
Married Joan Clark in 1949 and together raised four adoring children; Edward, Robert, Ellen and Thomas, all survive, along with 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. His beloved wife, Joan passed away in 1992 of cancer. He never remarried but enjoyed the rest of his days with Joyce Benson, his constant companion.
Charlie held various executive positions in the insurance industry. He was a member of Espirito Santo Catholic Parish, Clearwater. He volunteered his time at Mease Countryside Hospital.
Charlie was an avid golfer and member of Countryside CC for many years. His love of golf was exceeded only by his intense love for his family. He used to say: “Family isn’t everything --- it’s the only thing.”
Charlie is to be cremated. There will be a memorial service held for Charles at 10:30 am on Tuesday, May 25 at Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home, (2853 Sunset Point Road, Clearwater, FL. 727-796-1992). A graveside service and military honors will follow at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park where his remains will be placed alongside his wife, Joan.
