Bryan lit up the room whenever he walked in and would immediately charm you with his smile and friendly demeanor. He was a watcher of movies, collector of gadgets, purveyor of sweets, and handy man extraordinaire.
Bryan was born in Woodstock, Illinois on January 2, 1953 and left us on October 1, 2023. Bryan is survived by his devoted wife Susan; his son Beau; his stepdaughter Elissa Alchin, her husband John and their children Alexandra and Connor; his brother Jay Dean (Debbie); his sisters Shari Jones and Kelly Roberts; loving nieces & nephews; a host of friends; and his beloved cats. He is predeceased by his parents Adolph and Evelyn Dean, his sister Bonnie Elder, and his brother-in-law Pat Jones.
Bryan began his career at GTE in Largo, FL where he spent 25 years working in telecommunications. It was here that he met Susan, his wife of 44 years. After a long career at GTE, Bryan moved to PSCU where he continued his work in telecommunications until his retirement in 2017. Even in retirement, Bryan couldn't sit still and soon after began working for UPS as a loader. Regardless of the job, what Bryan loved the most were the people he met and worked with over the years. This is most evident by the long-lasting friendships he built throughout his career.
Bryan had many interests outside of work, including a love of sports. He showed early promise as a baseball player before injuring his knee and over the years, Bryan became an avid bowler and golfer and could always be found watching his favorite sports teams play on the big screen. Bryan loved captaining his boat "Deano" with his first mate Susie and cruising the waterways with their many friends. They also had many adventures in their RV, from Disney to Washington D.C, with friends and family. Perhaps his favorite pastime, however, was watching his granddaughter Alex ride her horse Stuart at the barn or compete at local shows.
Throughout his battle with cancer, Bryan was courageous and resilient, but most of all, he remained hopeful and optimistic that he would beat the disease that would eventually contribute to his passing. Bryan was a loving and giving man, who made it clear to his family that he'd do anything for them. But his generosity was not limited to just family. Bryan would do anything for anyone, from old friends to new friends to people he had met just minutes before.
His family invites you to carry on his memory by doing something he would have loved... play a round of golf, drink a margarita, ride a train, watch a sci-fi movie, fix something around the house, eat some ice cream, or any other activity that reminds you of the times you shared with Bryan.
A celebration of life gathering for Bryan will be held Saturday, October 21, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 2853 SUNSET POINT RD, CLEARWATER, FL 33759.
