Born February 1, 1931, in Lakewood, Ohio and reared principally in Youngstown, Ohio where she graduated from South High School in 1948 as class valedictorian. Attended Baldwin-Wallace College, Berea, Ohio where she graduated in 1952 with a BS degree in Math. She was a member of Delta Zeta sorority and Kappa Mu Epsilon math honorary society.
She taught school briefly after college before accepting a position in Market Research with Penton Publishing in Cleveland, Ohio where she worked for Steel Magazine. Later, when living in Japan with her husband, she did statistical analysis work for the Japan Procurement Agency in Yokohama, Japan.
In June 1954 she married Richard L. Kendrick at Pleasant Grove United Presbyterian Church in Youngstown, Ohio.
Ruth lived two and half years in Japan, where her husband was stationed with the Navy, and then was in Cleveland, Ohio for a year before moving to Clearfield in 1958.
She was involved in many of the activities surrounding Trinity United Methodist Church. For many years she was a part of the Administrative Board and was Membership Chairman, head of the church Finance Committee and Stewardship Chairman.
She served two terms on the Board of Directors for the Clearfield Arts Studio Theater. Since the early 1970's she had a very active part on the Board of Directors for Clearfield Community Concert Association where she was Secretary.
In 1993, along with her Husband, Dick, she was named Outstanding Citizen of the year by the Rotary Club.
For many years she was a member of Coterie Club and was an avid bridge player both with fun groups and from time to time with the duplicate bridge group.
Ruth was preceded in death by parents Herbert Oberer and Catherine (Miller) Oberer Galaida, her husband Richard (Dick) L. Kendrick, a son Karl Kendrick, and a brother Dr. Daniel Oberer.
She is survived by three sons, Richard Jr. (Rick) and wife Jacki and Scott and companion Lori Gearhart of Clearfield, Mark and his wife Faith of Coopersburg, PA. In addition she has four grandsons, Aaron, Collin, Dalton and Scott Yeager and two granddaughters, Kory Baes and Jamie Tarver. She has five great grandchildren, Marshall and Jackson Tarver, Violet and Audrey Baes, and Rory Kendrick.
Honoring Ruth’s wishes there will be no public visitation. Private services will be at the convenience of the family with Pastor Rick Butler officiating. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.
