Robert L. Maines

Born October 21, 1928, in Williamsport, PA, the son of Pauline (Craven) and Franklin Wakefield. He was adopted in 1930 by Slena Weston Maines.

Robert was a 1947 graduate of Clearfield Area High School.

He married the former Mabel McCartney on January 10, 1948 in St. Francis of Assisi Rectory, Clearfield.

Robert worked as a bricklayer and stone mason. After retirement he worked as a courier for County National Bank for 9 1/2 years.

He was a Korean War veteran serving in the National Guard.

Locally, he was an active member of the Twilight Baseball and Old Town Fast Pitch Softball teams and an avid Penn State fan. Robert was also a licensed pilot and member of the Airplane Owners and Pilots Association. He was a lifetime member of the 2nd Ward Hose Company. Robert loved spending time with his grandchildren and will be remembered as a good man.

Bob is survived by sons, Gregory L. Maines (Patricia), Holiday, FL, Robert M. Maines, Port Richey, FL, and daughters, Sandra M. Griffin (Phil), Greenwood, SC, Amy M. Krchank (Mark), Clearfield; son-in-law, Dr. Joe Hathaway, Sumter, SC, and extended family, Jim & Jeanie Jacobs, and their daughters;

15 grandchildren, and 31 great-grandchildren.

Robert was preceded in death by his biological parents, his wife, Mabel of 65 years, son, William Paul Maines, daughter, Nancy K. Hathaway, grandson, John Hathaway, and adopted mother, Selena Weston Maines.

Mass of Christian Burial will be said on Monday, January 6, 2025 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 212 S. Front St., Clearfield at 10 a.m. with the Very Rev. Robert Horgas as celebrant. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Friends will be received at Bennett & Houser Funeral Home, Inc., 312 E. Locust St., Clearfield on Sunday, January 5, 2025 from 5-7 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis Education Endowment Fund, 230 S 2nd St., Clearfield, PA 16830.
