Born on September 2, 1934 in Clearfield, he was the son of William and Mary Ernestine (Rafferty) Freeman.
Robert graduated from Clearfield Area High School in 1952.
Upon graduation he entered the United States Army and was a radio operator during the Korean War.
He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Clearfield and Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Philipsburg, PA. Robert was a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Council #409 member. He assisted with the St. Francis of Assisi Youth Group for 10 years.
When he returned home from the Army, he became owner and operator of Blacker’s Greenhouse , Clearfield. Robert also worked as a bus driver for 22 years for the Area Transportation Authority.
He was a lifetime member of the Clearfield Fire Department and served as past Fire Chief and was in charge of the fire company Relief Association for many years. He assisted in the organization of the Clearfield County Fair and was in charge of arranging the entries to be judged in the Floral Category at the fair. He loved animals and gardening, but will be best remembered for his many years of volunteer service in Clearfield County.
Robert was the last of his generation. He is survived by his wife, Deborah whom he married on April 15, 1977, three step-children, Lisa Covington and her husband, Robert of Akron, OH, Nancy Jackson and her husband, Marvin L. Jackson, Jr. of DuBois, PA, Donnie Catalano and his wife, Chris of Indiana, PA; five grandchildren, Robbie, Amy, Cody, Joshua, Justyne, two great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Jim, Richard, and Don Freeman.
Friends will be received at The Bennett & Houser Funeral Home, Inc., 312 E. Locust St., Clearfield, PA on Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at 11 a.m. for a memorial service. Deacon Bob Wilson will officiate.
