Mr. Litz was born on June 30, 1928 in Clearfield, the son of Sylvester and Mildred L. (Stewart) Litz.
He retired from the United States Army on July 31, 1969 after more than 23 years Active Federal Service with the rank of E7 Sergeant and was a meat cutter and cook. Mr. Litz was head Meat Instructor at Fort Knox, KY and the Fort Knox Cook and Baking School. On October 13, 1967 he received the Kentucky Colonel Award from the state of Kentucky for volunteer work for the state. He also had the best meat cutting department in the U.S. Army at Fort McClelland, Alabama. He was on the 1st Army Pistol Team and several rifle teams.
He was a member of the Clearfield American Legion, the Curwensville Moose Lodge, and the Curwensville VFW. He enjoyed his grandchildren, fishing, hunting, gardening, and butchering.
Mr. Litz is survived by his wife, Rebecca M. (Maines) Litz whom he married on May 6, 1952 in Woodland, four sons and three daughters, David (Marge) Litz, RD Curwensville, Susan Helsel of Kellytown, Bob Litz (Carol) of Bloomington, Sandra Hensley (Ed) of Epharta, William (Pat) Litz, Grant, MI, Edward (Vicky) Litz, Kellytown, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a great-great granddaughter. He is also survived by one brother and two sisters, Theodore Litz, St. Matthews, SC, Donna Jean Farrell, Buffalo, NY, Carol June Duez, Clearfield and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Joanne Holt, four brothers, James, Paul, Terry, and John Litz and two sisters, Kathleen Augustine, and Helen Bushover.
Friends will be received at The Bennett and Houser Funeral Home, Inc., 312 E. Locust St., Clearfield, on Thursday, March 24 from 10-12 PM. His funeral service will begin at 12 noon with the Rev. John F. White officiating. Interment will follow in Thompson Cemetery, Glen Richey where military honors will be conducted.
