Mr. Martell was born June 9, 1929 in Clearfield, the son of Lawrence H. and Dorothy A. (Dodge) Martell.
Raised in Shawville and attending a one-room schoolhouse, he graduated in 1947 from Clearfield High School specializing in general metals.
Upon graduation he was employed by Dufton Hardware helping to install furnaces and milking systems. He cherished his time working for the Dufton family and would do ornamental railing in his off time.
In the 1960’s he found his calling in glasswork and founded Martell Sales and Service, working there until his recent passing.
Leonard was a faithful member of St. John Lutheran Church in Clearfield. He was also a life member of Clearfield Fire Co. # 1 and the Hyde Volunteer Fire Co. and became the second member of the newly formed Lawrence Township Police Department.
Mr. Martell was United States Air Force Veteran having served during the Korean Conflict.
Leonard is survived by his three children; Marc Martell and his wife Monica, Greg Martell and his wife Laura and Nanette Reams and her husband Rick, all of Clearfield, three grandchildren; Melanie Donnelly and her husband Brian, Lauren Martell and Kyle Martell and his wife Kari, two great grandchildren; Henry and June Donnelly, a brother, Stanley A. Martell and his wife Joyce of Lockport, NY and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Olive Marie (Owens) Martell whom he married November 27, 1953 in Rockville Maryland and who was called home on February 16, 2011, an infant brother, Maynard Martell and five additional siblings; Marshall R. Martell, Marilyn Shugarts, Marvin L. Martell, Vernon N. Martell and Lawrence H. Martell.
Friends will be received at the St. John Lutheran Church on Friday, December 10, 2021 from 4 to 8:00 PM and on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the hour of services.
Funeral Services will be held at the St. John Lutheran Church on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at 12:00 PM with Rev. Robert Way officiating. Interment will be in Shawville Cemetery.
