John C. Himes

He was born July 15, 1934, in Patton, PA, the son of John W. and Augusta (Theis) Himes.

Mr. Himes was a graduate of Eastern University with Bachelors in Psychology, and Shippensburg University with a Masters in Education. He was a Career Counselor at the Clearfield Vo-Tech and the Reynoldsville Technical School and he retired from the Clearfield Area Scholl District after 25years of service as a Guidance Counselor.

He was a veteran having served in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard during the Korean War Era.

Mr. Himes was a member of the Clearfield Presbyterian Church where he sang in the choir for years.

He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Clearfield Lodge #540, the Clearfield Lions Club and the Sparkling Springs Hunting and Fishing Camp.

Mr. Himes was an avid hunter, and very involved in community organizations and charities.

He is survived by a daughter, Jennifer A. (Himes) Bush and her husband, Eric of Clearfield, two grandsons; Johnathan and Matthew Bush, two sisters; Barbara Himes and Nancy Roland both of Columbia, MD and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Himes was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Julia A. (Spencer) Himes whom passed away on June 19, 2010 and who he married on September 5, 1959 and a sister, Kathy Lomas.

A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, January 11, 2014 beginning with visitation at 1:00PM unto the time of service at 2:00PM at the Clearfield Presbyterian Church with Rev. Robert J. Mellgard officiating. Military Honors will be accorded at the church by the Clearfield American Legion Post #6 and the VFW Post #1785 Honor Guard.

Reception will be at the Westminster Hall, located in the Church, following services.

Interment will be held at a later date in Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde, PA at the convenience of the family.

The family suggest memorial contributions be made to the Clearfield Presbyterian Church, 119 North 2nd Street, Clearfield, Pa 16830 or the charity of the donor’s choice.
