James "Bill" W. Gates

Born November 3, 1935, the son of Dwight A. and Nancy E. (Haines) Gates.

He was a graduate of Curwensville Area High School, Class of 1954.

Bill was a lifelong truck driver having driven for various companies.

Mr. Gates was affiliated with the Bells Landing Baptist Church.

He enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with his family.

Bill is survived by his two daughters; Kimberly Haney and fiance Vic Harker of Grampian and Karen Thompson of Marysville, OH, five granddaughters; Kristi Haney, Danielle Gaines (Tyler), Samantha Moore and Morgan and Elise Thompson, a brother, Stuard D. “Stu” Gates (Nita) of Woodstock, VA and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Joan (Lansberry) Gates whom he married December 3, 1957 and who passed away December 18, 2014, two sons; John and Jeff Gates, a sister, Nancy J. Barrett and a nephew, James S. Gates.

Funeral Services will be held at the Bennett and Houser Funeral Home, Inc. of Clearfield on Thursday, April 10, 2025 at 1:00 PM with Rev. M. Bruce Dimmick officiating. Interment will be in Friends Cemetery, Grampian.

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday from 11:00 AM until the hour of services.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
