Born in Clearfield on March 22, 1941, he was the son of Louis R. Graham and Mary Margaret (Milligan) Graham Hugney. Guy graduated from Clearfield Area High School, Class of 1959, and continued his education at Lock Haven University, where he played football, winning a championship in 1960, and graduated in 1963. His time at Lock Haven made a tremendous impact on his life and led to a lifelong relationship with the university. Guy returned to Clearfield and began a 14-year career teaching elementary, junior high and high school students and coaching the Clearfield Bison football team.
In October 1963, Guy married Nancy (Swope) Graham, who was also a teacher in Clearfield. Guy and Nancy went on to have four children, Jeffrey, Jennifer, Beth and Erin, and to build a life together in Clearfield that lasted over 61 years.
Following his teaching career, Guy had a variety of successes in business as well as in shaping the Clearfield community. In the 1970s and 1980s, he operated Guy Graham Trucking, Inc. and Jeffrey B. Coal Company, Inc. From 1986 – 1999, he served as President of the Clearfield Chamber of Commerce and President of the Clearfield Foundation, undertaking economic development initiatives including the development of the Clearfield Fireman’s Industrial Park, the Clearfield Wal-Mart Distribution Center and the Clearfield Campus of Lock Haven University. Other civic involvement included serving as the President of the Clearfield County ARC and as President of the Clearfield Area School Board.
He continued to be active following his retirement, serving on the board of West Side Methodist Church, the board of Clearfield Hospital from 2010 – 2013, as Chair of the Clearfield Educational Foundation from 1988 – 2011 and as Chair of the Lock Haven University Council of Trustees from 1996 – 2020. Most recently, Guy started a behavioral health agency called Fresh Beginning to help people struggling with addiction and behavioral health issues gain a new start.
Also in his retirement years, Guy became a proud grandfather to Dante, Brian and Ethan and deeply enjoyed attending their sporting events and musical performances.
Guy was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather Ernest Hugney, Jr., siblings Thelma Graham, Anson “Bud” Graham and Louis Graham, Jr. and son, Jeffrey Brian Graham. Guy is survived by his wife, Nancy; his daughters, Jennifer Graham (Jeffery Achmoody) of Clearfield, Bethany Graham (Nicholas Sojda) of Brunswick, OH and Erin Graham of Aston, PA; and grandchildren, Dante Graham of Aston, PA and Brian Achmoody and Ethan Achmoody, both of Clearfield.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 13, 2025 at the Bennett and Houser Funeral Home, Inc., with Rev. Paul Bowers officiating. Interment will be in Crown Crest Cemetery. Friends and family will be received at the funeral home on Sunday, January 12, 2025 from 1 – 4PM and on Monday, January 13 from 10AM until the time of services at 11AM.
