Mr. Beard was born September 1, 1935 in Clearfield, the son of Lewis F. and Cora E. (George) Beard.
He was a graduate of Clearfield High School, class of 1953 and Juniata College, class of 1957.
In high school, George wrestled, played football and baseball and played football in college. He later became an avid and accomplished handball player.
Mr. Beard worked for General Telephone Co. in Erie from 1957 to 1972 and was a volunteer fireman for West Ridge Hose Co. Upon returning to Clearfield he worked with his father and brother, John “Jack” Beard at Beard Oil Co. from 1972 to 1990.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Clearfield and Fairbrook United Methodist Church of Penna. Furnace.
Mr. Beard was a member of the Clearfield Kiwanis Club, Clearfield Masonic Lodge of F.& A. M., served on the board of the Clearfield YMCA and had also served on the board of directors of the Clearfield Bank and Trust Co.
George is survived by his wife, Muriel L. (Leach) Beard whom he married July 15, 1955, three sons; Donald L. Beard of Tyrone, William R. Beard and his wife Janice of Baton Rouge, LA and Rodney A. Beard and his wife Rhonda of Bellefonte, six grandchildren; Brindsay, Bretton, Brianna, Britney, Bryce and Brogan; eleven great-grandchildren, a sister, Ruth B. Shear of Kentucky, three brothers; John F. “Jack” Beard and his wife Doreen of Curwensville, Arthur C. Beard and his wife Alta of Missouri and Daniel L. Beard and his wife Barbara of South Carolina, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers; David W. and Richard L. Beard.
Funeral Services will be held at 4:00 PM on Monday, July 23, 2018 at the Bennett and Houser Funeral Home, Inc. of Clearfield with Dr. C. Frederick Ralston officiating. Interment will be in Centre Cemetery, Hyde.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Monday from 1:30 PM until the hour of services.
