He was born May 9, 1936 in Clearfield, the son of Millard S. and Augusta (Read) Evans. Bruce was a 1955 graduate of Clearfield High School.
He had been employed by Junction Heating and Cooling in Pittsburgh, Penelec and R.D. Goss. After his retirement he worked at True Value Hardware.
Bruce was a United States Army Veteran and served in the Pennsylvania National Guard during the Vietnam Era.
He was a member of the West Side United Methodist Church, Clearfield where he served as trustee and was a member of the United Methodist Men.
Mr. Evans was a member of the Third Ward Hose Company of Clearfield for 65 years where he served as president and foreman and a charter member of Lawrence Township Fire Company No. 1 where he was president and fire chief. He served on the Clearfield County Fair and Park Board as director of publicity. Bruce was also a member of the Clearfield Lodge# 314 Free & Accepted Masons, the Old Town Sportsmans Club and a former member of the Clearfield Elks Lodge# 540.
He was a charter member of the Bald Face Lodge on Rockton Mountain and was an avid horseshoe pitcher, having won the Cooper picnic tournament five times.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Shirley C. (Swales) Evans whom he married February 14, 1959 at West Side United Methodist Church, two sons; Dwight Evans and his daughter Hailey of Curwensville and Doug Evans of Pittston and a sister, Peg Keating of Sellersville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Robert Evans and a sister, Norma Cowder.
Honoring Bruce's wishes there will be no public visitation or services. Interment will be in Goshen Cemetery.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Clearfield EMS, 713 West Front Street, Clearfield, PA 16830.
