Ursula Annemarie Fick, nee Polley, age 82, of Clayton, North Carolina passed away on Friday, April 11, 2025 after a brief illness. She lost her beloved husband of 60 years, Werner A. Fick, two years ago. She is survived by their sons, Kenneth T. Fick and Ralph (Debbie) Fick, seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren, as well as her eldest brother, Heinz Bertholdt Polley. She is predeceased by two other brothers, Walter Polley and Hinrich Polley.
Ursula was born on the family farm in Ihlienworth, Germany on April 18, 1942 to Richard and Frieda Polley. She emigrated to New York in 1960, sponsored by her then fiance, Werner. They married October 6, 1962 and learned the delicatessen trade. They purchased their first deli in Queens, NY in 1967 which was successful until they sold it a decade later. As active members of the Otterndorfer-Buelkauer Club, Ursula and Werner were able to share their northern German heritage with their sons. Over the years, Ursula returned to Germany several times with her family as well as traveling around the United States of which she became a proud citizen.
Ursula and family moved to the lower Hudson Valley, NY and opened a new delicatessen. Ursula did all the cooking and was renowned for her German Potato Salad as well as the monthly Sauerbraten meals among other hot lunch dishes provided to very satisfied customers. As members of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monroe NY, Ursula and Werner shared their talents with the congregation and community, catering many of the events held at the church and serving as choir mom. After another decade of cooking all the food for their second successful deli, Ursula hung up her deli apron and worked for Arden Hill Hospital food services in Goshen, NY.
After retiring, Ursula and Werner moved to Monroe, NC in 2006 where they were active members of Spirit of Joy Lutheran Church. They resettled in Clayton, NC in 2019 and became members of Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
A memorial service and inurnment will be held at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Clayton, NC (www.holycrossclayton.com) on Friday, May 2, 2025 at 2pm; refreshments to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
