Thomas Currie McLaren, Sr., 79, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield on Monday, November 27, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday November 30, 2017 in the chapel of McLaurin Funeral Home with interment following at Pinecrest Memorial Park. He is survived by his wife; Shirley J. McLaren, son and wife; Thomas Jr. and Elizabeth McLaren of Garner, siblings and spouses; Catherine and Billy Edwards of Garner, Agnes and Maynard Patterson of Winter Park, FL, grandchildren; Tonya McLaren and companion Cory Pirtle of Broadway, Ashley McLaren and Amber McLaren of Garner, five great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Thomas was born in Edinburgh, Scotland and moved to the United States when he was 15 with his mother and sisters. He served in the U.S. Air Force and then began a lifelong career in HVAC, retiring in 2000. Tommy was quite the master chef, having his own private grill-house in the backyard, serving many family members and friends over the years. He had a passion for traveling with his wife and friends, visiting many countries. Everyone that knew Tommy, knew he was the life of the party or social gathering and loved being around friends and family. He was preceded in death by his mother, Frances Southerland Sealey; father, Thomas McLauren; stepfather, Loomis Sealey, Jr.; brother, Loomis Sealey, III. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the SECU Hospice House, 426 Hospital Road, Smithfield, NC.
