Shirley Jones Carroll, 89, passed away on Monday, January 10, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Carroll was born on November 8, 1932 in Johnston County to the late Hubert and Eva Wilder Jones. After graduating from Wilson’s Mills High School and Mitchell Cosmetology School, she started Shirley’s Beauty Shop in Clayton. Shirley was an active member of the First Baptist Church and she also loved to volunteer at the local nursing homes fixing hair for the elderly.
She is survived by her daughters, Texie C. Lee and husband, Fred and Gina C. Sampson; son, James J. Carroll, Jr; sister, Irene Coggins; brother, Harry Lee Jones; 6 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, James J. Carroll, Sr.; son-in-law, Bob Sampson and a grandson, Chad Lee.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 14, 2022 at 11:00am at the First Baptist Church of Clayton with Dr. Mark White officiating. The interment follow the service at Pinecrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Friday one hour prior to the service from 10:00 -11:00 am at the church.
