Sheila Grace Hommell

Sheila Grace Wynne Hommell, age 77, of Garner, North Carolina passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 9 at Rex Hospital in Raleigh, NC. She was born in Saugerties, New York on December 1, 1947 to the late Wilbur Wynne and Rose Bulich Wynne.

Sheila grew up in Saugerties, New York on her family’s small farm. Sheila, along with her husband Merwin, raised their family in Saugerties, NY until they moved to North Carolina in 1993. While living in North Carolina, she worked as an Administrative Assistant until she retired in 2010. She enjoyed spending her time with her family, gardening and taking care of her beloved dogs.

Sheila was preceded in death by her loving husband Merwin Hommell, her brothers Wilbur and Vernon Wynne and her sister Sharon Gillespy. She is survived by her daughter Lisa Voerg and her husband John Voerg of Saugerties, NY, her son Darren Hommell of Garner, NC and grandchildren Carly Voerg of Delmar NY and Noah and Julia Voerg of Saugerties, NY.

A visitation for Sheila will be held Tuesday, April 15, 2025 from 1:00 to 2:00pm at McLaurin Funeral Home, Clayton, NC. Following the visitation will be a memorial service in the chapel of McLaurin Funeral Home.
