Roy “Buddy” Glenn Taylor, Sr., 71, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 18, 2021 after being fed up with the lack of western movies and good ice cream at the hospital. Louisiana bred but raised in Flint, Michigan, he was son to the late S. B. Taylor (Patricia) and Juanita Smith. He moved to North Carolina in the late 70s, where he worked as a painter for over 40 years until he retired.
Roy was a man of few words and an adventurous spirit. He loved old school country music, playing the guitar, watching westerns, wrestling, and Nascar on TV. If he wasn’t doing one of those things, you could find him hunting Bigfoot or sharing the latest conspiracy theory.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Joe Taylor, and his siblings, Lois Downs, Wayne Taylor, Jiggs Taylor, Stacey Taylor and Joan Miller.
Roy will be remembered by the love of his life of over 31 years, Dorothy, which he married not once but twice, and by his children; Vance Taylor (Sherry) of Benson, Roy Taylor Jr. of Goldsboro, Jason Taylor (April) of Clayton, Sam Taylor of Dunn, Amanda Donovan of Jacksonville, and Travis Taylor of Fayetteville. He is also remembered by his 27 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, along with many friends that became family along the way.
Roy will be laid to rest at Maplewood Cemetery in Clayton following the funeral service at McLaurin Funeral Home. Service will be officiated by son, Vance Taylor. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Cody Taylor, Dakota Taylor, Khristian Hopkins, Jesse Taylor, and Brayden Taylor; Honorary Pallbearers, Luke Taylor and Jackson Taylor.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 22, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the chapel of McLaurin Funeral Home in Clayton. The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday, one hour prior to the service from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
