Roy “Guy” Davidson III, age 68, of Smithfield, NC, died early Sunday morning, June 27, 2021. He was surrounded by his children at UNC Chapel Hill Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC. Born May 4, 1953, he was the son of the late Roy Guy Davidson Jr. and his mother Patsy Dodds Davidson.
Guy was born in Sweetwater, TX and moved to Malawi, Africa with his parents in 1965 when they began to pursue missionary work. He attended Rift Valley Academy in Kijabe, Kenya for high school and finished his high school years in Quitaque, TX, where he lived with James and Helen Cadenhead and played football. He attended Texas Tech University and graduated in 1975.
Throughout life, Guy was a true achiever and relentless in his life’s work. He was a master of technology with a rare talent for creativity when it came to production. He was tireless, focused, ambitious, and a great partner to many. Most of all, his main motivation was to provide a better life for his family. He was a family man, with a HUGE heart for his children. Guy led a wonderful and adventure-filled life, and his family was always forefront. He had a fierce love for his babies and loved with a generous heart, always and unconditionally.
Guy loved the Dallas Cowboys, Diet Dr. Pepper, traveling the states and the world, spending time with family, and giving back to so many. He was a genuine patriot and loved his country. He was selfless and a rock of stability. His gentleness, humility, and compassion allowed him to leave a solid foundation for his kids to live by. He was a true hero in life, a good listener, and a loyal friend to everyone he met. His humor would brighten the day of a stranger and everyone around him. Thank God he took life with a grain of salt and knew how to make everyone laugh. He never showed defeat, even when life got tough. His positive attitude shaped the world around him and the life he led. His love for God and family made a huge impact on his kids and those around him. It gives us great peace knowing he is now in the presence of his Savior and with all those who went before him. We know Krispy Kreme’s “Hot Now” sign will always be lit in Heaven for him. Dad, you are greatly missed and will forever be in our hearts.
