A Celebration of Her Life memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM Friday, March 18, 2022, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Clayton with Pastor Bill Beyer officiating. Internment will be at a later date in the Lorton section of Hickory Grove Cemetery in Wrights, Illinois.
Peggy was born in Hardin, Calhoun County, Illinois on April 26, 1945, to Henry de Lafayette and Mildred Magdalene (Branham) Triplett. She was the third of five daughters in the family.
Peggy attended Southern Illinois University where she met Charles Lorton, her college sweetheart. They were married on April 12, 1969, in Bethalto, Illinois. Throughout their nearly 53-year marriage they enjoyed traveling and explored many states together.
She is survived by her husband Charles; children Adrienne (Michael) Mabry and Jennifer (Gregory) Roane; grandchildren; Ethan Mabry, Katlyn (Clifford) Nichols, Tyler Roane, and Christopher Roane, and Elizabeth Roane; sister Elsa JoAnn Rose; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in law and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her sisters Melba Jean Triplett, Margaret Elaine Pohlman, and Kathryn Lorain Triplett.
Peggy worked for many years in the Virginia Tech Library System and then the Medical University of South Carolina President’s Office before retiring. She was a life-long Lutheran, was very active in the church and Bible study groups, loved animals, and enjoyed cross-stitching, crafting, quilting, scrapbooking, and collecting multiple varieties of African violets. Peggy never met a stranger, always had a welcoming smile, a great sense of humor and a killer eyeroll.
Peggy was a proud member of the Smith-Bryan Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution. She, her mother, and sister Margaret were avid genealogists and they spent many years meeting and interviewing distant family members and researching their family history. Peggy is now enjoying her family reunion in heaven and restored to perfect health, finally solving all her genealogical brick walls.
Peggy is a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who will be dearly missed.
