Mary Elizabeth Straka Miller

Mary was born on November 11th in Newburgh NY to William and Santina McCann of Newburgh. She was a teacher assistant for many years for the Newburgh Enlarged School District. She was married to Andrew Straka and they moved to Clayton NC in 1996 to be closer to their children. Mary worked as the church secretary for St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Smithfield NC.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her first husband.

She is survived by her husband Tom Miller of Clayton NC. Her sisters Jean McCann Meineker and husband Jim of Campbell Hall NY and Barabara Avgerinos of Wilmington NC. Children Michelle Mink and husband Joe of Clayton NC, Andrew Straka Jr and his wife Cindy of Garner NC and Elizabeth Lewis and husband Steve of Cary NC. Granddaughters Cassandra Mink and significant other Bailey Strohl, Katina Lewis and significant other Kell Nichols, Victoria Mink Worrells and husband Jackson, Rebecca Straka, Emily Straka and significant other Jeff Graycyalny, Serena Lewis and significant other Lamont Brooks, Madison Miller, Olivia Polly. Great grandchildren Braylen Strohl and Kamora Lewis. Stepchildren Chris Miller and significant other Stephanie Parnell of Al, Kim Miller Polly and husband Aaron of AZ, Melissa Miller of AZ and several nieces and nephews.

If you knew Mary, then you knew her grandchildren were the love of her life. She had a special nickname for each of them. Once a month they would have a Nonna/granddaughter lunch.

A Catholic service will be held at 2:00pm at McLaurin Funeral Home in Clayton, on Saturday, November 16th, 2024. The family will receive family and friends from 1:00-2:00pm, just prior to the service. Family and friends are invited to Mary’s house after the service.
