Jimmy D. McLaurin, 77, died Sunday, August 30, 2015, surrounded by his family. He was born in Concord, NC on December 11, 1937, the son of the late Daniel A. McLaurin and Grace Nash McLaurin. Mr. McLaurin was the founder and Past President of McLaurin Funeral Home, Pinecrest Memorial Park and Knollwood Memorial Park. He served as President of the NC Funeral Directors Association from 1974 -1975. He was elected to three four year terms as Johnston County Corner and was appointed Acting Medical Examiner for Johnston County form 1978 - 2002. He served on the advisory Board of United Family Life Insurance Company and was active in many civic and community organizations. He was a member of Granite Lodge #191 in Clayton where he served as Master and was a 32nd mason with the Scottish Rite Bodies of NC, member of Sudan Temple and a Life Member of Amara Shrine Center in Palm Beach, FL where he served as Potentate in 2005. A two time President of the Clayton Chamber where he was coordinator of the Governor’s Award and was named Clayton Citizen of the year in 1971. He also served as President of the Clayton Rotary Club where he was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a member and Past Commander of Leonard Moore American Legion Post 71.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 Wednesday at Horne Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Ross Carter and Dr. Mark White officiating. Interment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at McLaurin Funeral Home.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Cooper McLaurin, daughters, Leslie McLaurin Barber and husband David of Lake Jackson, TX, Margaret McLaurin of Clayton, his son, Jimmy D. McLaurin, Jr and wife Marian of Clayton, step-sons, Eddy Gower and wife Becky and Gregory Gower and wife Susan of Waxhaw, 11 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and many nieces and nephews. The McLaurin family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks for the many acts of kindness, thoughts and prayers during this difficult time and a very special thank you to the entire staff of the Brian Center for their compassionate care and love they showed our family.
