Jackson "Jack" Odell Viars, Jr.

A memorial service to celebrate Jack’s life will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, October 21, 2023 in the chapel of McLaurin Funeral Home in Clayton, North Carolina with Terry Hardison officiating.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at the funeral home, prior to the service.

Jack was born in Martinsville, Virginia on July 16, 1965 to Odell Viars(Frances) of Pulaski, Virginia and to the late Linda Payne. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his sister, Sherry Gregory; his paternal grandparents, Sparell and Myrtle Viars and his maternal grandmother, Laurel Worrell.

Jack owned and operated Precision Quartz Inc. with his business partner and friend Mr. Craig Ramsdell. Together they forged an amazing partnership that delivered exceptional customer service, delivered expertise knowledge, and skill in watch and jewelry repair for well over thirty years. Jack's passion for beautiful jewelry, and making people smile, was his motivation to greet each customer with a warm smile and an occasional "Hey there darling, what do you have there?...I can get you squared away...will just take me a minute". He also loved to travel, and he had recently made his first trip to Oslo, Norway where he spent a week exploring the city with his forever friend Morten Kofoed. Jack's favorite vacation spot was where the mountains meet the sea. Acapulco, Mexico. He would travel to the region several times, and would always vow to return to his special oasis.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his partner of 25 years, Don A. Gaines Jr.; his uncle Arthur Pickerel; his aunt Barbara Mcfall; his cousins, Paul McFall (Holly), and Tonya Howard (David); and his nieces Hanna Mize, and Summer Gregory.
