Nancy Morgan, age 83, passed away in her sleep on Saturday, January 1, 2022.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, January 8, 2022 in the chapel of McLaurin Funeral Home in Clayton. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM there prior to the service.
Nancy was born in Forsyth County, NC on March 31, 1938 to the late Charlie Rose Southern and the late Rosa Belle Tysor Southern. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Daniel Bradley Morgan; her sister, Mary Hester; brothers Charles Southern, Lewis Southern, Robert Southern and Wayne Southern.
Nancy raised her children as a single working mother in Winston-Salem, NC. She received a Bachelor’s Degree from High Point University in 1989 and retired from Gilbarco and Sara Lee corporations. She enjoyed working on family genealogy at gatherings with her many cousins. In addition, she enjoyed painting, crossword puzzles, and traveling with friends. As a loving “Mema” to her grandchildren and the other children in the extended family, she enjoyed baking pies, making and sharing her coveted pear preserves and cooking the most delicious banana pudding for holidays and other family gatherings. She was a lifelong reader and was admired for her wisdom and ability to engage in conversation on most any subject. After she moved from Winston-Salem, NC to Clayton, NC in 2016, Nancy was active as a volunteer and participant at the Clayton Center for Active Aging. She was blessed to have many wonderful neighbors and friends at the “Senior Center” and in the Garden Spot community where she lived independently nearby.
She is survived by her children, Lauren Olsen and husband Steve Olsen of Belvidere, Ill, Clif Morgan and wife Antoinette Hall Morgan of Clayton, NC; and grandchildren, Charlie and Daniel Morgan and Eric Olsen and wife Sarah Olsen and their daughter Emma Olsen; many in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.
