Gerald was born in Princeton, WV on May 26, 1949 to the late Wanda C. Ray and David D. Ray. He moved to North Carolina in 1972 living in Charlotte 12 years and the remainder of his life in Clayton.
Gerald is survived by his wife of 52 years, Wanda D. Ray of Clayton; two daughters, Angela Canady and husband, Ray of Clayton and Leigh Anne Wall and her husband, Jeremy of Willow Springs; three grandchildren, Jordan Canady, Tyler Canady, and Colt Wall. He is also survived by one brother, David Ray and wife, Melissa; two nieces, Paige and Zoe Ray.
Gerald was an avid camper and had driven his motor home across the US numerous times. He loved camping with his wife, his children and his grandchildren. He enjoyed wood working and made small items for the home.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 30th, at 2:00 pm in the chapel of McLaurin Funeral Home with the family receiving friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 until 2:00 pm. A private burial for family only will be held at a later date at Knollwood Memorial Park in Clayton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Angels Among Us at, the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at the Duke Cancer Institute, DUMC box 3624 Durham, NC 27710.
