Donald Keith Pollard, age 88 of Clayton went home to meet his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 7, 2020. Born February 25, 1931 in Johnston County, he was the only child of the late Elmo and Lottie Jernigan Pollard Sawyer. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Maggie (Pat) Pollard; second wife of 15 years, Clyde Tart Pollard; son, Christopher Pollard, and grandson, Shon Jarman. He is also preceded in death by two brothers Stanley Pollard and Michael Pollard; three sisters, Pamela Sawyer Meads, Linda Pollard Bradley, and Gayle Pollard Buchler.
Most of his career was spent working the business he started in the early 60’s, Don’s Heating and Air. He was a Member of the West Clayton Church of God, rarely missing a service before his illness. He enjoyed reading and talking about the Bible with everyone he met and prayed diligently. One of his greatest passions was mission work which he supported financially through many organizations as well as helping those in need in his community. He especially liked helping groups that dig wells for villages without clean drinking water. He also loved working in his raised-bed organic garden, growing; leafy greens of all kinds, squash, tomatoes, carrots, onions, beets and a variety of herbs that he shared along with talks about eating healthy.
The funeral services will be conducted January 10, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. at the West Clayton Church of God, 143 Short Johnson Rd, Clayton, NC 27520, with Pastor Jason Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends just prior to the service from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, Clayton.
Surviving are his wife of five years, Dallie Pollard; three daughters, Teresa Byrd and husband Otis of Smithfield, Donna Jarman and husband James of Benson, Tanya Stell of Clayton, brothers, David Pollard of Richlands, Sandy Sawyer of Elizabeth City, Robert Sawyer of Hopewell, VA, sister Debra Arnold of Clayton, 8 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.
