Caroline Taylor Reddick

Caroline Taylor Reddick was born in Columbia, South Carolina in 1936 to Thomas Pou Taylor and Mary Davis Taylor. Reddick was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who had a sharp mind and quick wit, touching the lives of those around her in a positive and uplifting way. She is survived by her four children, Mary Hayes (Virginia), John Edwards (Florida), Anna Lang (Mississippi), Sarah Ellerbe (North Carolina) and seven grandchildren.

She graduated from Dreher High School in 1954 prior to the family moving to the rural community of Sandy Run. She attended Converse College in Spartanburg, SC before transferring to Erskine College in Due West, SC in 1958 where she earned Degrees in English and Music.

She moved with her husband and first two children to Lake Wales, Fl in 1961 and earned a Master’s degree in education in the 1970’s while teaching school in Babson Park, Fl. In September of 1971, she was asked to fill in for the Organist at the Lake Wales First United Methodist Church where she remained the organist for the next fifty years. The Pastor of her church described her saying “She’s wonderful and dedicated. Not only as a musician but as a Christian. This is her calling because you don’t do something for 50 years unless you’re meant to do it.”

In 1978 she married the late Dr. Marvin James Reddick, and the two lived very happily in Lake Wales until his death in 2010. In 2022, Caroline moved to North Carolina where she remained.

Caroline will be remembered for her faith, her music ministry, her years of competitive tennis, and her southern lady-like charm. But perhaps she will best be remembered for her loving spirit, her quick wit, and her love for her Savior.

She will be returned to her family home in Sandy Run. A memorial service will be at the family cemetery on June 24th. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are suggested to the Lake Wales Care Center or the First Baptist Church of Clayton Organ fund.
