Mrs. Barbara Lesley Poole was set free from all earthly constraints on Feb. 15, 2024 at the age of 90. She was born and raised in England. She met a very handsome Clayton, North Carolina bred Air Force man, by the name of Nathan Edward Poole, while he was stationed in England. The story goes…she was dating someone else at the time, but was out with her girlfriends one night and met Nat..and…Nat had his own car…nuf said…the rest is history. A very whirlwind courtship ensued and a wedding was pulled together before he was to leave for his next station in the US. They spent most of their 50 years happily together traveling from base to base all over the US. She lost her true love shortly after their 50th wedding anniversary and she missed him from then on, every minute of every day.
Barb was a hoot! You never knew what silly thing she was going to do or what absolutely hilarious thing would come out of her mouth next! She was always up for a good laugh even if it was at her own expense. It was always her mission to make each assigned base housing a home for her family. She was a master gardener and an animal lover of all creatures domestic and wild. She was a stellar grandmother who delighted in picking strawberries and baking cookies with all the grands.
Left to carry on the legendary G-ma Barb stories, traditions and Christmas cookie recipes are…
-daughter Elaine Elbeery and husband Joe of Greenville NC and their daughter, Allie Coggins and husband Carson and soon-to-be daughter Rose of Raleigh NC.
-son, Mike Poole and wife Karen of Youngsville, NC, Mike’s son, Scott and wife Amanda and their children Nash and Emerson of Fuquay Varina, NC and Mike’s daughter, Taylor of Raleigh, NC.
Among friends and honorary family members that will also cherish her memory are Barb’s long time bestie from the old neighborhood, Sandy Rich, Barb’s special friend, TJ Arnold, Mike’s wife, Karen’s family and Brookdale Senior Living of Greenville NC staff and residents.
A simple family only interment was followed by a riotous group sharing of all our favorite Gma stories and antics!
She will be missed.
