Born in Lenoir County, North Carolina on January 31, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Bessie and Charlie Mercer. Barbara proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1961-1962.
In addition to her parents, Barbara is preceded in death by her brother, Wayne Mercer; sister-in-law, Georgia Mercer; and granddaughter, Casie Thompson.
Surviving are her sons, Keith McLamb of Fayetteville, Craig Thompson of Thomasville, and Brad Madden (Stephanie) of Mesa, Arizona; brother, Jack Mercer of Kinston; sister, Glenda Stainback of Kinston; grandchildren, Melodie McLamb, Matthew McLamb, Mindy McLamb, Adam (Lindsay) Thompson; great grandchildren, Aubree, Madison, and Bennett Thompson; and niece, Karen Mercer Foss (Bob) of Kinston.
A visitation for Barbara will be held Monday, January 22, 2024 from 5:00 to 7:00pm at McLaurin Funeral Home, 12830 US 70 Business Highway West, Clayton, North Carolina 27520. A graveside service will occur Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7501 Glenwood Ave, Raleigh, NC 27612.
