Anthony Michael Sofia was born to Louis and Susan Sofia, a machinist and homemaker, in Brooklyn, NY on February 26, 1959. Anthony thoroughly enjoyed music and played guitar. He often told stories of his early childhood time spent with family at the bungalow in Queens, NY as well as his experiences and upbringing during a memorable period of time in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
He worked at Bear Sterns for 30 years as a securities clerk in records retention, then four years at J.P Morgan and for a brief period at the YMCA of Rockaway Beach, NY until he retired and moved to Clayton, North Carolina.
Anthony was united in marriage to his wife Gail on June 26th, 1980. From this union came one son and one daughter whom he was extremely proud of. He and his wife Gail lived in Rockaway Beach, NY for 35 years.
Anthony Sofia was born into a Roman Catholic family, but later came to appreciate the clear articulation of the good news, or gospel, found in scripture and proclaimed by the historic catholic church in the reformed, evangelical tradition. He was a devout Christian whose hope and confidence in eternal life came from faith in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who said, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die.” (John 11:25-26)
Anthony is survived by his wife, Gail; his son Randy Sofia; his daughter Jamie Tammaro; his grandchildren Isaac Sofia, Luke Sofia, Sofia Tammaro, Gabriella Tammaro, Micah Sofia, Juliana Tammaro and Anna Sofia; and his brother, Albert Sofia. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Anthony passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, September 4, 2022 with his wife by his side after a short battle with esophageal cancer.
