Cornelio Manuel Martins was born in Providence, Rhode Island on September 14, 1929 to Luis Bibiana Martins of the Island of Maio, Cape Verde Islands and Catherine Johnson Martins of Providence, Rhode Island. He attended Elementary and High School and graduated from Hope High School of Providence, R.I in June 1947. Cornelio found Jesus in 1946 and became a member of, and was baptized at Ebenezer Baptist Church. He remained a member of that church until his departure from Providence in 1953. In 1949, Cornelio met and married Gussie Williams of Providence. In 1950, this marriage was blessed with the birth of a son, Cornelio Martins Jr. After a short tour in the United States Navy, Cornelio returned to Providence where he held a variety of jobs until 1953. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force where he worked as an Electronic Tech and a Technical Instructor. While on assignment in Japan in 1959, he met and married Hisae (Peggy) Abe. (deceased) of Yokohama, Japan. During 17 years, the marriage was blessed with the birth of two lovely daughters, Kimiko and Kioko. Cornelio's last assignment was at McClellan AFB in 1965, and he retired in 1973. The family made their home here in Sacramento, CA.
Cornelio has been a loyal member of his Masonic Lodge, Abarim Lodge #64 AF&AM since 1965 and has served in numerous offices in his Lodges and Higher Degrees including Worship Master and Potentate of Mah-Shim Temple #12 A.A.O.N. M.S (Shriners). Cornelio became a real estate broker and engaged in the real-estate industry until 1980. He was also employed at Sacramento City College as a Veteran Advisor and Peer Counselor. While employed there, he met and was married to his present wife, Marie Collins in 1980, and they have enjoyed 24 wonderful years together until she was called home on February 26, 2004. In 1980, Cornelio returned to work with the U.S Government where he is presently employed / retired in 2000. He stated as an Engineering Technician and is/retired as presently a technical instructor of numerous computer courses. Cornelio was called home on Thursday February 23, 2018.
Cornelio is survived by a son Cornelio Martins Jr. of Sacramento, two daughters; Kimiko Martins, Kioko Martins Rhodes, three grandsons; Lauren Matthews; Jeremy Martins, and Jason Martins. Two granddaughters; Emiko Martins Lark and Kaila Neism. He is also survived by three "daughters"; Cathy Addison of Denver Colorado, Inez Collins of Sacramento, and Velva Collins of Sacramento. Two "sons"; Lester Addison of Denver and Isiah "Jack" Collins of Davis, "Granddaughter": Amanda Addison of Denver. "Grandsons" Koro Mitchell. Great grandchildren Nyla Matthews, Soniya, Nakiyah Amiyal, and Micah. Akemi & Afeni Franklin. He also leaves behind a host of other relatives and friends.
