Sylvia S. McKenzie, 78, passed away on May 29, 2015 in El Cajon, California, from complications from Myasthenia Gravis. Sylvia was born on September 18, 1936 in Tucson, Arizona, to Alice and John Taylor. Sylvia grew up in Tucson and was graduated from Tucson High School (1954) and the University of Arizona (1958) "With High Distinction" (magna cum laude) with a Bachelor of Science in Education degree. After graduating from the University of Arizona she married Dan McKenzie, they were married for almost 57 years at the time of her passing. During there almost 57 years together they lived in Bakersfield, Los Angeles, Ventura, Arcadia, Covina and El Cajon, California; Aberdeen, Maryland and Farmington, New Mexico. Upon her husband's retirement from the US Forrest Service in 1994 she moved to El Cajon where she did volunteer work at Mission Trails Regional Park, San Diego Museum of Man, the Water Conservation Garden in El Cajon and the Rancho San Diego County Library. Sylvia was Instrumental in starting two groups that meet monthly at the Bancroft Ranch House Museum in Spring Valley, a book club and a discussion group called the "Presenters."
Sylvia is survived by her husband, Dan and two sons, John of Portland, Oregon, and Curtis (Virginia) of El Cajon, and also two grandchildren, Jennifer and Forrest McKenzie. A private service is planned.
