Martha Hernandez Ceseña was born in Chihuahua, Mexico on April 20, 1931. She was the daughter of Marcos Hernandez and Francisca Apodaca and had seven children: Luz Emilia Lucero, Hipolito Lucero, Hector Lucero, Noe Hernandez, Gemima Hernandez, Elizabeth Hernandez, Ruth Hernandez, and raised her grandson Obed Lucero as her own. Martha was the middle child of eight siblings: Manuel Hernandez, Juanito Hernandez, Ascension Hernandez, our beloved Martha Ceseña, Benito Hernandez, Micaela Hernandez, Esperanza Hernandez, and Guillermo Hernandez. Martha came to the United States in 1968 looking for a better life for her and her children. She met Juan Green Ceseña and his son Arturo Ceseña-whom she raised as her own son-while doing door to door evangelism. Juan asked Martha to marry him in 1971 which then allowed Martha to move to the United States with her children. Martha and Juan created a beautiful life in San Ysidro until his passing in 1997. Throughout the years, Martha came to have many friends and adopted strangers as family. She was a caring, nurturing, and natural hostess. She loved to have people over at her house and never failed to offer them something to eat or drink. As she grew older, she began to lose her memory but that lighthearted humor and love for the Lord never left her heart. She passed away in the home that she dwelled in for most of her life on May 25th, 2021
