It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Luis Jesus Cacho, who left us on March 29, 2025 at the age of 92 years old. Luis was born in Pala, California on May 19, 1932 and was 1 of 7 children of Antonio and Herminia Cacho. He grew up in Chula Vista, California where he attended Chula Vista High School.
He was a pillar of strength and a beacon of love to his family. He was blessed with 4 children with his predeceased wife Ophelia and later was blessed once again with 4 more children with his predeceased wife, Maria. He is survived by Charlie, Richard, Luis A., Elizabeth, Daniel and Deanna. Unfortunately, he had also suffered the loss of his daughter, Helen, and son, Raul.
He enjoyed spending time with his 18 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and two great, great grandchildren. They were his pride and joy.
Luis was the life of the party and always had a story or joke to tell to make you laugh or teach you a life lesson. He was known to have a guitar in his hand and was always willing to sing for his family and friends. Music, farming, work and family were his passions. He was one of the most hard-working men that led by example. He found happiness in life‘s simple moments and encouraged us to do the same. He was a wonderful father, husband, Tata, grandfather, uncle and friend.
Luis was very well known for his legacy of generosity and was a well-respected friend, leader, musician and businessman. He was a cherished member of the community of Chula Vista and was always willing to lend a helping hand.
As one of the founding farming families in Chula Vista, he was an integral part in agriculture. He began farming with his father and later formed L Cacho & Sons with his children Charlie, Helen and Richard. He was a man who believed in opportunity and would hire anyone who was willing to work. During his farming career, he employed hundreds of people and in the late 80s,he and his family helped immigrate over 500 employees through the amnesty program.
He continued in business ventures in real estate. Luis, along with his mother, developed a Manufactured Housing community in Chula Vista, which was named after him, Don Luis Estates. After three generations, the family business continues to operate today by Luis A., Elizabeth and Daniel.
He will be remembered for his musical talent. He was a leader of his own Mariachi group for many years. He played every instrument, the trumpet and the guitar being his favorites. He had a gift of playing his music by ear. With his famous voice he captured the hearts of many. His love for music and people led him to travel to many places with his mariachi. One of his memorable moments was volunteering for the USO to entertain the troops in the Vietnam war. He recorded a record with the proceeds going to help the soldiers.
Luis “Don Luis” lived a long and prosperous life filled with the love and admiration of his family and friends. As his favorite song said, “Vivi hasta el final, a mi manera.” He did it his way. He was truly one of a kind. His absence leaves a great void in our hearts. He will not be forgotten and will truly be missed.
