Lee gained business administration education at California State University and joined the army during the Korean War, where he worked as a code breaker. On March 3, 1977, he married the love of his life, Teresa Valdéz, and the marriage lasted 27 years until her passing in 2004.
As a successful entrepreneur, he was an early pioneer in the maquiladora manufacturing business in Mexicali, Baja California. Lee was a voracious reader and also enjoyed cooking, especially baking nutritious bread, however, his true passion was handicapping horse races using mathematical equations and processes. Lee also was a skilled pianist and delighted his family with his playing of jazz compositions which he referred to as “boogie-woogie.” Lee’s intelligence and talents were only surpassed by his generosity and love for his family. His children are eternally grateful to him and he will be deeply missed.
Lee is survived by his children, Teri, Eugenia, Orencio, and Alberto, and his grandchildren, Arturo, Diego, Gabriel and Carolina.
A celebration of life memorial service for Leroy will be held Sunday, October 13, 2019 from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Funeraria del Angel Chula Vista, 753 Broadway, Chula Vista, CA 91910.
