Kathryn M Jaques

JAQUES, Kathryn Misbach, 84, died on March 6, 2021 at Sharp Community Hospital in Chula Vista following a stroke and cerebral hemorrhage. Katie, as she was known to friends and family, was a recognized expert in the field of state and local tax law who continued to teach for San Diego State University through the fall semester of 2020 and volunteered as a tax preparer for the Kroc Center every year. She was also an avid auto racing enthusiast, a devoted choir singer, and much admired and beloved for her wit, wisdom, warmth, and unfailing generosity. Katie was predeceased by her husband, Vernon. She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Fraire of El Cajon and Valerie Jaques of Descanso; grandchildren, Parker Jaques, Cora Stephens, Aurora Fraire, and Vernon Fraire; niece, Karen Misbach of New Orleans; and her “volunteer” daughter and housemate of 20 years, Debora Robinson. A celebration of her life is planned for the spring of 2022 at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Diego.
