Jonathan David Smith son of Evelyn Marie Smith and Samuel Smith was born in Riverside, California on June 19, 1951. He was the fourth eldest of eleven children. Being the son of a military father, his family moved to Ft. Lewis Washington, then to Munich Germany, Ft. Huachuca Arizona and lastly moved to San Diego California in 1971 where his father retired the family.
He attended college at the University of Tempe for computer programming. He also attended San Diego City College where he received his degree in Computer Science. He was briefly married in 1973 which produced a child Shielah M. Smith –Knight. Shielah had four children, David Smith 16, Shielah Rios 15, Shilone Knight 6, and Aleesheeya Knight 4.
His first love was to spend time with his daughter and grandkids. He raised David as his own son and enjoyed introducing him to his favorite pastime which was attending car shows. As a child he was very artistic and drew many models of cars and also liked to put on plays for his parents entertainment. He was the one you could always find smiling joking and just enjoyed life. Johnathan was a true Christian who even tried to become a minister at one time in his life.
Jonathan worked as a Sandblaster at NAASCO in San Diego, Ca for over 17 years. After this he went back to his first love which is building and working on computers. He worked his last 17 years as a Computer Engineer at General Atomics.
Jonathan is survived by his daughter, Shielah M. Smith – Knight, his mother Evelyn M. Smith and his siblings Sandria Nelson from Virginia , Douglas Ward in Magalia Ca, Darryl Ward ( and wife) in Moreno Valley Ca, Don Smith (Shannon Smith) in La Mesa, Ca , Brenda Smith in Oceanside Ca, Deborah Green in San Diego Ca, Sharon Smith in Spring Valley Ca, Belinda Robinson ( Steve Robinson) Spring Valley Ca, Regina Black( Joel Black) San Diego, Ca and four grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
