The youngest of four children, Jack was born in Los Angeles on May 22, 1921. He grew up in West Hollywood, where he cultivated a love for sports, playing baseball, football and track. Jack also played semi-pro soccer with the Los Angeles Athletic Club. In addition to athletics, Jack loved to sing.. He recorded a few singles as a young man and later performed with his Barbershop Quartet.
Jack joined the Marine Corps, in 1942, serving as an aviator during WW II and the Korean War. He flew a variety of aircraft including the B-25, PBY and C-119.
Jack’s civilian career began in sales with the Quaker Oats company. He subsequently joined Marquez Foods, eventually becoming the company president.
In 1972, Jack retired and moved to Coronado with his wife Betty. There he enjoyed golf, tennis, sailing and traveling. A long-time member of Graham Memorial Presbyterian Church, Jack sang with the Chancel Choir for many years. Two years after the passing of his wife, Betty, Jack remarried Mary Flowers of Montauk, New York, where the couple spent their summers.
Jack passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, May 15, with his wife, Mary at his side. He is survived by his sister, Francis, his wife Mary, his son Ron, four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.. A memorial service will be held for Jack at Graham Memorial Presbyterian Church on June 4, 2012 at 10:00am with military honors being rendered at Ft Rosecrans the same day at 2:30pm.
