Henry Travis Cooper Jr., 74, a resident of San Diego, California, was born in Harrisonburg, Louisiana on January 14,1948 to Henry Travis Cooper Sr. and Annie Dean Boothe Cooper. He is the second of five children. Travis was baptized in the waters of Rosin Creek in Catahoula Parish in 1959. He graduated from Enterprise High School and attended Northeast Louisiana University in Monroe Louisiana.
He entered the United States Navy in 1968. Stationed in San Diego, he met Deborah Alvarez and they were married on March 13, 1976, as part of a double wedding along with her twin sister Priscilla who was married to Darrell Sinyard in the same ceremony. While in the Navy, Travis continued his education and attained the rank of Chief Petty Officer. After his retirement in 1992, he was employed by the National School District as a Custodian.
He faithfully attended The Anchor Church of San Diego (originally Revival Tabernacle) from 1974 until his passing. Travis served in the bus ministry, choir and downtown street and Balboa Park services. He used his art of cooking to serve the staff during the King of King’s Passion production. He enjoyed grilling BBQ and also introducing California folk to venison and his Louisiana dishes. His interests included fishing, hunting, the outdoors and spending time with family. His greatest desire was to be in a house of worship. Even as his body was weak, he desired to be in church including when he traveled to Texas and Louisiana--just to be in the presence of the Lord.
He is preceded in death by his father and mother; Henry Travis Cooper Sr., Annie Dean Boothe Cooper and his brother Timothy Grayson Cooper. He is survived by his wife, Deborah Cooper along with his sons Timothy Cooper, Justin Cooper, his daughter-in-law Apple Jane Cooper and two grandchildren Lance Cooper and Macy Claire Cooper, by his siblings Alice Sue Walker of Jonesville, Louisiana, Chester Cooper, his wife Angie Cooper of Harrisonburg, Louisiana and Bryan (Brie) Cooper of Los Angeles.
