“Dancing Heart”
Wife & Mother
Mazur-Stocker, Gloria Ruth SAN DIEGO -- It is with great sadness that the family of Gloria Ruth Mazur-Stocker announces her passing on September 11, 2013. Gloria, 83, was born in Des Moines, Iowa on April 11, 1930 to Irving and Rose Stone, the eldest of three children. She resided in San Diego since 1973. She is survived by her brother Irving Jr., six children: Debra Nichols, Cheryl Burgess, Martha Mazur-Lane, John Mazur, Matthew Mazur and Peter Mazur; ten grandchildren: Daniel, Patrick, Hannah, Miriam, Noah, Sophia, Alexandra, Joshua, Max and Leia, cousins, nieces as well as the many others whose lives were touched with her grace, compassion and love. Gloria was a graduate of Stephens College and earned her Bachelor of Arts from Drake University. She had been a patron of the arts since her college days where she fell in love with dance. She was active with the International Folk Dancers, San Diego Symphony, Lambs Players, East County Center for the Performing Arts, Twilight in the Park Summer Concerts and the Joan Kroc Center. Gloria was on the Board of Beth Shalom Synagogue Sisterhood in Chula Vista. She served as a President of Na’amat-Golda Meir Chapter in Southern California. She also served on the Executive Board of the PTA in Chula Vista and chaired the Back Yard Swim Program. She felt strongly that every child should know how to swim and personally spent countless hours teaching swimming herself. Gloria had a passion for adventure and travel that she shared with her family. She traveled to Israel, to Africa, to Europe and throughout North America. She genuinely enjoyed learning about different peoples and cultures. Beyond her absolute dedication to her family, Gloria was deeply committed to serving those in need in the community of San Diego. In opening her heart to those in need she significantly changed the lives of many. She knew the difference one-on-one mentoring provided and worked tirelessly over the years to promote membership and raise funds to support her numerous interests and programs. She always honored those around her with her time and compassion. She listened, learned and truly cared about people - from the orthopedically handicapped and the intellectually challenged kids whose lives she inspired through her community service work to her family that she supported and adored, the friends she cherished and the complete strangers she left with a smile. Gloria was an all-around eloquent, articulate, thoughtful and well-respected woman. She was a long-time member of the Beth Jacob Senior Center and will be terribly missed by everyone. A memorial service was held at Beth Jacob Senior Center on September 13, 2013. A second memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on December 20, 2013 at 2:30pm at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego. Gloria wanted those who would like to honor her to do so by donating to Beth Jacob Senior Center.
