Geraldine Natalie Arias Pura was born on June 30th 1931 in Redondo Beach CA to Salias Arias and Josephine Vargas. She and her 3 siblings Jesse, Steven and Yvonne grew up on a working dairy farm raising livestock. At an early age, Geraldine also began helping her mother and father grow flowers for the expanding flower market in LA.
During her early teens she fell in love with rollerskating and that's how she ended up later on meeting the love of her life James Pura. James was on Navy leave and immediately fell smitten with Gerry. During this time she attended college and received her diploma from the California School of Practical Nursing. James and Geraldine soon fell in love and got married on July 7th 1952. They moved to San Diego where James was stationed and wanted to start a family. Geraldine first experienced trouble with pregnancy, which turned them to adopting their first baby boy Daniel James. Soon after she was able to conceive 3 children. Bradley Lewis, Michael Andrew and Lisa Yvonne. Family life became a priority and her nursing career never fully transpired.
Geraldines incredible abundance of love developed into fostering many children over the next 25 years. When her fostering years came to a close, she always still talked fondly of all her children, many of which remained in touch. Her love, warmth and understanding was always remembered and felt by the children she helped raise and created long lasting memories. Namely Janet, Patricia, Steven, Lori, Debbie, Jan and others.
Geraldine passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family in her Chula Vista home. Geraldine is preceded in death by her husband James of 37 years of marriage. She is survived by her 4 children Daniel, Bradley, Michael, Lisa and their spouses. Her sister Yvonne and her grand daughters Samantha, Danielle and her great grand children Luna Mae and Hunter.
Memorial service will be held on Friday February 23rd at 11:30am and reception to immediately follow. Viewing hours for Geraldine that day will be from 10am-10pm at Funeraria Del Angel 753 Broadway Chula Vista, CA 91910. Her burial service will be on Tuesday February 27th at 12pm at Pacific Crest Cemetery 2701 182nd St, Redondo Beach, CA 90278.
