Born to David Granville Schoolen and Dorothy “Dot” (Pepin) Schoolen on April 5, 1970. David was welcomed home by his parents and older sister Darcie. Born in Idaho, David spent his early years in Dos Palos, California. His family moved to Chowchilla when he was in middle school.
During high school, David did what he did best, he collected friends. Throughout high school he played in the Chowchilla High School Band, played tennis and was in Future Farmers of America. Many of his classmates have great stories of that time together.
After high school, David had many work experiences from farming to truck driving and many things in between. His most important job however was when he met the love of his life, Stacy. He became Dad to Courtney. David said, “I got her just in time!”
David and Stacy met in the Spring of 1999 at the El Nido Missionary Baptist Church. They soon knew that they were meant for each other and married August 21st that same year. David, Stacy and Courtney became a family. In their more than 25 years of marriage, David was always in for fun and did not know a stranger. David and Stacy took many trips with friends and family with Dave making everyone laugh. Anyone who knew him has a great David story.
David’s service to God and to others has touched countless lives. He was involved in everything from coaching Courtney’s softball team, working with youth groups and service organizations to fellowship with friends. Anytime someone needed him, he helped without question. Working for PG&E for more than 20 years, David worked with many people he counted as friends.
David was a foodie, many of you may recall his cross country taco tour of ‘22. Sharing a meal was a fun experience with Dave and you never knew what he might talk you into trying.
In 2022 he and Stacy embarked on a DIY remodeling project on his parents home and made it their own. Working that closely with each other on that project was truly a labor of love.
David is survived by his wife, Stacy Schoolen; daughter, Courtney Silva (Jake); sister, Darcie Elliot (William); mother-in-law, Sheila Cook; father-in-law, Wayne Gilbert (Corinne); sister-in-law, Angela Lindsay (Randy); brother-in-law, Casey Gilbert (Michelle); sister-in-law, Tasha Gallegos; nephew, Jeffery Kammerer; niece, Heather Chapman (Eric); nephew, Draven Gilbert; niece, Nixon Gilbert; and countless cousins and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, David and Dot Schoolen; sister, Margaret “Meg” Kirby-Kammerer; and nephew, Travis Lindsay.
