went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 2014,
at the age of 90 years and 11 months. He resided at the Inland
Christian Home for the past seven years. Mr. Van Hofwegen dairyed
in the Chino Valley for 62 years retiring in 2005. He also worked for
a number of years as a realtor for Bill Murphy Realty. The oldest of nine
children born to Arie and Johanna Van Hofwegen, Steve was born at
home in Alcester, South Dakota on January 20, 1923. Steve was
preceeded in death by his parents, his wife Clara, six siblings, son
Steven Van Hofwegen and son-in-law Myer Lanting. He is survived by
his daughters: Sandy (Mike) deBoom of Madera, CA; Clary Lanting
(Myer deceased) of Oakdale, CA; sons: Steve (Anna) Van Hofwegen
of Beresford, SD; Gary (Irene) Van Hofwegen of Buckeye, AZ; and Jim
Van Hofwegen of Chino, CA; brothers Jack of Concord, CA, Al of Ontario,
CA; sister-in-law Vicky Van Hofwegen of Pheonix, AZ, and brother-in-law
Lewis Blackketter of TN. Steve is also survivied by 17 grandchildren,
24 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews who admired
him for his example of honesty, integrity, generosity, rich sense of humor,
his love of family, and his deep love for his Lord. Steve married his beloved
wife Clara (de Jong) on July 6, 1944 at the Ontario Christian Reformed Church
and began living on the dairy on Palmettto Avenue where they would spend
most of their lives happily working together dairying and raising their five children.
Steve and Clara were charter members of the First Christian Reformed Church
(Chino URC). For many years Steve was actively involved in the church
serving as a Deacon, Elder, and Building Committee Chairman. He also
served on the Board of Ontario Christian School He had a special place in
his heart for the young people of the church. The family would like to
thank the staff at Inland Christian Home for their loving care over the past three years.
