Robert (Bob) R. Martinez passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his children on August 27th 2013 after a short battle with cancer. Born on September 27, 1930 in Chino Calif. He was a lifelong resident of Chino. After attending Chino High school, Bob joined the Army in 1950. While in the Army, Bob served in the 1st Cavalry, 5th Cavalry Regiment, Charlie Company. While in the Army, Bob served in the Korean War from 1950-1952. He was awarded numerous medals for valor including the Distinguished Service Cross. After his discharge from the service Bob went to work for Kaiser Steel in Fontana, Calif. Upon the steel plants closing, he went to work for the Chino School District in the Maintenance department. Bob was active in the Chino community serving as a little league coach for Chino National, a member of the VFW (Veterans of Foreign War) and the Chino American Legion. Bob was married to Jessie Anita Vallejo until her death in 1999. Together they raised 5 children, Patricia Newton (Bill), JoAnn Lakin (Bruce), Robert Martinez IV (Missy), Chris Martinez (Michelle) and Julie Shipley (Lance). Bob leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. To his family and friends Bob was a kind, loving and hardworking family man who will be missed by all that knew him. Rosary will be held Thursday, September 5th at Pierce Brothers Griffith from 6-9 pm. Mass will be Friday, September 6th at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Chino at 10 am. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Pomona, Ca.
