Mary Lou Garcia
Mary Lou Garcia passed away on Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at Kindred Hospital, Rancho Cucamonga, CA. She was 88 years old. She was born on June 21, 1935, the daughter of Jose and Maria Arellano, the third youngest of six brothers and sisters, Mary Lou was a lifelong Chino resident where she attended Chino schools and graduated from Chino High in 1953.
Upon graduating, she married the "love of her life", Jess Garcia the same year. They had three children Joanne, Rick and Vicky and were devoted to each other for 53 years. She worked several jobs.
She worked at Pactra Paints in Upland for a few years. She enrolled in electronic school and was able to get a job at General Dynamics in Pomona for about five years. After in 1976, she became a Bilingual Instructional Aide for Chino Unified School District for 22 years, retiring in 1998.
As well as working for the Chino School District, Mary Lou loved to sew and had a real knack for sewing dresses and Halloween costumes for friends and family. Mary Lou enjoyed reading books, articles and magazines. Mary Lou was a great cook. Her cooking was not just food, it was an expression of her love and care for her family. She made some of the best mole, enchiladas and many more entrees. She loved spending time outdoors with Chuy and family in June Lake. She enjoyed watching all sports and was an avid Dodger and Laker fan. She also enjoyed traveling to many places throughout Mexico, Hawaii, New York, Boston, Washington D.C., Spain and Canada. As a side hustle, it pleased her to make snow cones for the neighborhood to enjoy for several years.
Above all, Mary Lou valued family and hard work and she infused her life with these values.
Mary Lou was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be greatly missed by her three children, daughters Joanne (David Sanchez of Chino and Vicky Garcia of Corona, her son Rick Garcia of Chino; grandchildren (6), Christine, Davey (Jenny), Melissa and Daniel Sanchez, Jon Garnica and Josh Garcia; great-grandchildren (5), twins Aunjolee, Julian, Marceline, Sebastian, and Arcelia; and her brother, Raul (Veronica) Arellano of Ontario; along with countless nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be 9:00am-11:00am Friday, March 1, 2024 along with Rosary at 10:00am
Funeraria Del Angel Chino following with mass at 12:00pm Friday, March 1 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Chino. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Pomona. Following the funeral, there will be a reception at the American Legion 13759 Central Ave. Chino.
