Harold R. Nelms, 85, of Chino, CA, passed away on March 28, 2016 at home. He was born on August 18, 1930 in Inglewood, CA and was a Chino resident for 46 years. Harold lived in Long Beach, CA for 20 years prior to his move to Chino. He was an Executive Vice President for G.T.E. and retired on October 31, 1987 after 37 years of dedication. Harold received an MBA from Pepperdine University. He was co-founder of the Chino Invitational (Band Review) for 45 years. Harold was the former President of the Chino High School Band Boosters. He served as Board President for Chino Valley School in 1987 and remained on the board until 1991. Harold was an Inland Valley Humane Society Board Member and President of the Chino Valley YMCA Board in 1997. He also dedicated over 30 years as a Board Member for the United Way. Harold was on the Board of Directors of Bauer St. Mary's Medical Center in Long Beach and the Long Beach Boy Scout Council.
Harold is survived by his wife Helen J. Nelms; son Harold Nelms and wife Deanne of Redlands, CA; daughter Kathleen Kontoes and husband David of Norco, CA; grandchildren Joanna Perry, Robin Nelms, and Helen A. Nelms and 3 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his son John P. Nelms in May 2008, grandson Shawn P. Nelms in Dec 2013, great-grandson Colin P. Perry in Oct 2012 and his sister Noreen Hall, Corrine Davidson and Eloise Shupp. A memorial service will be 10 a.m., Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Funeraria del Angel Pierce Bros Griffith, in Chino with reception to follow at the Nelm's residence.
