Longtime Chino resident and member of St. Margaret Mary Parish, Angelina “Angie” Vallejo passed away peacefully in her home on March 30, 2025 with family members at her side. Many will know of Angie as the neighbor who grew oranges and persimmons on Philadelphia Street in Chino. Others will remember her as their teacher at Walnut Avenue Elementary School, and, most notably, others will remember her as their sister, aunt, and friend.
Àngie was born to Samuel and Pauline Vallejo on March 29, 1935 in Pomona, California where she lived until the family grew to 11 children and moved to Chino, California. She graduated from Chino High School in 1953 and earned a bachelor's degree from The University of LaVerne.
In 1967 Angie became a teacher at Walnut Avenue Elementary School in Chino where she taught second grade until her retirement in 2002. Many of her nieces and nephews attended the same school and enjoyed helping their Aunt Angie with classroom duties.
Angie was quick to share her interests with her nephews and nieces, hosting camping trips at Point Mugu, road trips to places including Washington D.C., Tucson, and Canada, and day trips to Cal Poly’s pumpkin patch, St. Andrew's Benedictine Abbey in Valyermo, and other places that she enjoyed. She also enjoyed getaways to the desert and beach with her friends.
As Angie’s nieces and nephews became adults, she enjoyed accompanying them and their families on trips to the river, Arizona, local camping sites and many other places. She also made it a point to celebrate life events such as graduations, births, and holidays with them, hosting annual Christmas Bunco parties with the intent of maintaining strong family relationships.
Additionally, Angie enjoyed Bingo, trips to Laughlin, her dogs, and Yahtzee.
Angie is preceded in death by her siblings Mary Helen Vallejo, Jessie Martinez, Carmen Flores, Natalie Garcia, Perfecto “Perfy” Vallejo, and Henry Vallejo. She is survived by her siblings Ellie Strader, Lydia Cagan, Sally Elias and Samuel Vallejo as well as 18 nieces and nephews and their families.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 1, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary at 6:00 p.m., at Funeraria del Angel Chino, 13002 South Central Avenue, Chino California. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, May 2, 2025 10:00 a.m. at Saint Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 12686 Central Avenue, Chino California.
