Mr. William Alfred "Al" Thomasson, 80 of Garden City SC, passed away on Monday October 24, 2011 at Grand Strand Medical Center. Born on February 21, 1931 in Rockingham County, he was the son of the late William Leonard and Leona Dean Thomasson. Educated in the Rockingham County Schools, he served his country in the National Guard during the Korean War. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council, and finance committe, and an associate member of St. Phillips Lutheran in Myrtle Beach. Mr. Thomasson's career was with Kroger Stores, where he was the manager of the Roxboro store. After his retirement, from Kroger, he went with Frito Lay Co., where he retired after some years with them. Mr. Thomasson was a member of the Keller Memorial Masonic Lodge. He was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite and a member of the Oasis Shrine Temple. Mr. Thomasson enjoyed the company of his special friends at Hardee's in Myrtle Beach, and playing golf and photography.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Mary T. Hopkins and two infant brothers.
Those left to cherish his memories, is his wife Ruby Shue Thomasson to whom he married on June 2, 1956. daughter Patricia "Patty" Throneburg and husband Keith of Hudson, NC, brother Charles Thomasson of Reidsville, sisters, Louise T. Vernon and husband Alfred of Eden, and Gloria J. Mullins and husband Fred of Thurmont Md. Grandchildren, Christopher Throneburg and wife Gennifer and Brian Throneburg, great grandchildren Aiden and Logan Throneburg. Numerous nieces and nephews survive him as well.
Visitation will be on Saturday from 10-11 at Grace Lutheran Church in Salisbury with funeral at 11 also at the church, with Rev. Jerome Cloninger, minister. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church Family Life Center 3020 Grace Church Rd. Salisbury, NC 28147.
