Born in Mt. Groghan, SC, he was the son of the late Willis Moore and Mary Starnes Moore. He was the eighth of ten children and spoke often of his large family and his childhood.
Upon graduating from China Grove High School, William served in the United States Air Force moving through the ranks to achieve Master Sergeant. The journey had many stops. He was stationed in Minnesota, North Carolina, the Philippines, Guam, New Jersey, New York, Mississippi, Turkey, Thailand, and Nebraska taking his wife Pauline and their four children, Cindy, Scott, Dwayne, and Debbie along with him for the ride whenever possible.
In 1979, Bill retired from the Air Force and settled into the business world in York and then later to South Sioux City, NE. In 1991, he and Pauline made the trek to North Carolina packing everything they had acquired on their journeys into a shipping container and sending it by train to China Grove. They settled into life on an acreage and plans for home expansion and a large shop. Sadly, following a short illness, Pauline passed away in 2000 and Grady was left to continue.
In 2009, Grady married JoAnne Barkley. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church and was a faithful Sunday school member. He loved helping Jo raise money for the scholarship fund and was incredibly proud of her meals (especially her dumplings). He was proud to have served in our military and always supported Independence Day and Veterans Day ceremonies, proudly wearing his uniform to represent the Air Force. He was known as that guy who would help where needed, giving advice, directions, and a neighborly hand, gladly bringing out the tractor and moving whatever was needed.
In addition to his parents, William was also preceded in death by his five siblings; his first wife, Pauline Darling Moore and one son, Scott Moore.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, JoAnn Moore; children, Cindy Williams (Paul) of Lincoln, NE, Dwayne Moore (Teri) of Spring Hill, TN, and Deborah Winsor of Gastonia, NC; twelve grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren and siblings, Don Moore, Marcine Miller, Lib Alexander and Walter Moore.
