Born in Iredell County on April 23, 1943, he was the son of Robert Lee Parker and Francis Cranfield Parker.
Shirley served in the United States Army obtaining the rank of E4 before getting an Honorable Discharge. He then spent 40 yrs. of his civilian career working for Goodyear / Wingfoot recapping tires.
Shirley was preceded in death by his father Robert Lee Parker, his mother Francis Cranfield Parker, and his brother Bobby Lee Parker Sr.
In retirement, Shirley enjoyed spending time at his grandchildren's events, tinkering in the building, laughing with friends and family, and just enjoying life.
Shirley was a long-time member of Westside Baptist Church, in Salisbury NC.
Those left to cherish Shirley’s memory are his wife of 56 yrs. Linda Parker, daughter and son-in-law Patricia Parker Woodie (Billy), son and daughter-in-law Terry Parker (Amanda), son and daughter-in-law Robert Parker (Heather), grandchildren Tiffany, Logan, Jazmine, Landon, Zoey, Lucas, Jacob, Noah, Caleb, and Anna, sisters Doris Jane Ketchie and Mary Lou Riley, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The family will receive friends Thursday, August 29, 2024 from 6 – 7:30 pm at Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home in China Grove, NC.
The funeral service will be held Friday, August 30, 2024, 10 am at Westside Baptist Church in Salisbury, NC followed by a procession to Westlawn Memorial Park in China Grove, NC where Shirley will be laid to rest.
